We present a glittering evening of music and drama, plus some very special guests including Kenneth Alan Taylor and Julie Hesmondhalgh. So put on your best clothes, come along and kick start the next 125 years of home produced theatre in Oldham.
At a grand re-opening ceremony, a company of Coliseum favourites will evoke key moments on stage from the theatre’s long history including extracts from Brassed Off, Good Golly Miss Molly, The Rocky Horror Show, Sweet Charity, A Taste of Honey, Piaf and The Road to Nab End.
For two nights only we present a gala celebration of Oldham Coliseum, marking the culmination of 125 years of performance at Fairbottom Street and looking forward to an exciting future in the newly refurbished theatre.
Curtain Up at the Coliseum: 26&27Oct
“Crammed with great visual gags, bawdy comedy and addictive songs- if you are lucky enough to get a ticket you won’t be disappointed.”
“repertory theatre pantomime of a very high order”
“while the Coliseum does stick to particular traditional elements in its pantos (including some of the jokes) it feels fresh and current enough to work for the newer generations with a very good standard of script, performances and production.”
“As a reasonably-priced family Christmas treat, it will almost certainly prove unbeatable.”
“wholesome traditional panto at its compelling best to unite the generations in right good mirth.”
“Another genuine Christmas treat”
The Coliseum is famed all over the North West for its pantomimes, with our 2010 production of Sleeping Beauty winning a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Family Show.
Cinderella, one of the greatest fairy tales of all time, will be given the usual Coliseum treatment of stunning costumes, shimmering scenery and magical music. This is one festive bash you do not want to be late for.
Poor old Cinders is a lowly housemaid with a wicked stepmother and two very ugly sisters. When the Prince of the land announces that he is holding a huge party to find his bride, Cinderella knows she won’t be able to go. But along comes her fairy godmother, and with a wave of her wand and a little help from Buttons, Cinderella shall go to the ball.
